Scientists told to address farmers' problems

HYDERABAD: Dr. B. Raghava Reddy, Director, Research, Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University on Thursday urged scientists to work with commitment and sort out problems of farmers.

He was speaking at the valedictory function of a two-day workshop on `Sustainable castor production: Problems and Prospects' at Palem Agricultural Research Centre (PARC) in the district.

Advising scientists to innovate and come up with ways to overcome farmers' problem, he said discussions at the workshop between scientists and agricultural officers should be taken into consideration and translated to the farm. He said farmers should also dwell on pests and disease management in the farm.

Scientists from various States and progressive farmers attended the workshop. Associate Director, PARC, Butcha Reddy welcomed the gathering.

Addressing the workshop on Wednesday, D.M. Hegde, Director, Oilseed Research, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Hyderabad, said there was need to increase productivity in castor crop to reach global competitiveness.
