SHRC seeks information on Akula's land deals

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission has issued notices to the Collectors and district Registrars (Registration and Stamps) of Ranga Reddy and Nalgonda districts to submit reports on the vast tracts of land purchased by Akula Rajaiah in the two districts.

The commission wanted the authorities concerned to give particulars pertaining to the lands purchased by Mr. Rajaiah, the nature of deeds that he had obtained and names of vendors specifying as to whether they were occupants or pattedars. The SHRC was responding to petition filed by CPI State secretary K. Narayana alleging that Mr. Rajaiah entered into illegal land deals to acquire lands from Dalits and weaker sections.

The SHRC, in its notice (SR. No. 5440/2006), wanted the details of land transactions starting from January 1, 1997 and the officers had been asked to send the abstract of the nature of the lands as well as the fact whether they had been declared under AP Act 1 of 1973.
