THRISSUR: The Chembai Award, instituted by the Guruvayur Devaswom in memory of legendary vocalist Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar, was presented to violin maestro M.S. Gopalakrishnan at a meeting in Guruvayur on Thursday. The award carries a purse of Rs.50,000, a gold medal and a citation. Mr. Gopalakrishnan was a close associate of Chembai Bhagavathar. The Manavedan Puraskaram, instituted by the Devaswom, was presented to V.R. Krishnan Namboodiri. Speaker K. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the 32nd Chembai music festival on Thursday.
