Shivakumar challenges Kumaraswamy

Bangalore: Congress leader and former Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Thursday challenged Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to refer the charges made in the first information report (FIR) filed against him and his family members concerning their mining business to the CBI.

Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Shivakumar wanted to know why no case had been filed against any of the 126 miners in Bellary district about whom Minister for Forests and Environment C. Chennigappa had submitted a report to the Chief Minister.

The former Minister said there was no connection between him and the company in the city, the offices of which were raided.

Mr. Shivakumar alleged that the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms refused to part with the information about the alleged registration of property purchased by the Chief Minister and his family members, even when he applied for it as a legislator.

The information was not given again when he sought it under the Right to Information Act on the grounds that he would misuse it.

`Vindictive politics'

The former Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar, MLA, said the Chief Minister was indulging in "vindictive politics" against the Congress leaders.

Asked why the Government was targeting him, Mr. Shivakumar said it was because he had taken the lead in defeating the Janata Dal (S) president H.D. Deve Gowda in the elections.
