Inaugural function to be held on the Karnataka College grounds

CHECKING: Deputy Commissioner M.S. Srikar and his team inspecting the venue for the utsav in Dharwad on Thursday.

DHARWAD: Preparations for the Dharwad Zilla Utsav, being conducted after a gap of seven years, were in full swing in Dharwad, with the inaugural ceremony scheduled to take place on Friday.

A big stage has been erected in front of the heritage building of Karnatak Arts College. The inaugural function would be held on the Karnataka College grounds.

Deputy Commissioner M.S. Srikar, who visited the venue on Thursday, told presspersons that there would be seating facility for 4,000 people.

Separate "food courts" were being set up on the grounds for the benefit of the large number of people expected on the inaugural day. Elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure good lighting and sound system, he said.

Arrangements had already been made at Kalabhavan, where on the inaugural day, the actor Naseeruddin Shah and his troupe would present the play "Ismat Apa Ke Naam".

Big screens had been installed outside the auditorium for the purpose, Mr. Srikar said.

He said the arrangements at the other venues would be completed by Friday. Revenue and district-in-charge Minister Jagadish Shettar will inaugurate the utsav in the presence of a host of artistes and writers.

Inauguration

While the inaugural function is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m., a cultural procession, "Samskruti Dhara," will be taken out from R.N. Shetty Stadium at 2 p.m. Scores of folk troupes from across the district will take part in the procession.
