Badrinath closes for the winter

Staff Correspondent

DEHRA DUN: The Himalayan shrine of Badrinath was closed for the winter amid religious chants on Thursday heralding the end of the Char Dham Yatra this year.

Hundreds of devotees took part in the closing ceremony. An interesting feature of the ceremony is the placing of a woollen "choli" on the deity.

The "choli" is woven by the girls of Mana, the last village on the Indo- Tibet border.

It will be taken off the deity during the opening ceremony for the next year.
