Kashmir Utsav ends

NEW DELHI: "Ustav Jammu and Kashmir", a cultural exchange programme aimed at strengthening the bond between the people of Kashmir and the rest of the country, ended here on Thursday. Organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, the three-day festival saw the participation of a large number of youths from Jammu and Kashmir. The event was marked by a variety of programmes including a cultural exhibition and Delhi darshan.

Malayali awards

NEW DELHI: Delhi Assembly Speaker Chaudhary Prem Singh on Thursday presented `Malayali Pratibha Puraskaram' to various personalities in the field of journalism, music, business and social work at a function at Kerala House Auditorium here.

Mr. Singh said small and language newspapers had always rendered invaluable service and played a vital role in freedom movement.

BHEL bags prize

NEW DELHI: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has become the first public sector company in the country to win a prize under the CII Exim Award Scheme.

The recognition has been bestowed on BHEL's heavy electrical equipment plant at Hardwar, for business excellence, as per the globally recognised model of the European Foundation for Quality Management.

New PNB product

NEW DELHI: Punjab National Bank has launched a new product, "PNB Arogya Shree", to provide health insurance facility for its customers, both depositors and borrowers at competitive premium rates. PNB will be offering the scheme at 64 select branches in Delhi, Mumbai and Lucknow.

`Blood donation good for heart'

NEW DELHI: People who donate blood regularly are at reduced risk of getting a heart attack, said Dr. K.K. Aggarwal, president of Heart Care Foundation of India, at a seminar at Pragati Maidan here on Wednesday.

He said by repeatedly donating blood, people can reduce inflammation in their arteries that supply blood to the heart.

Man gets lifer

New Delhi: A Delhi court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his friend over a money dispute involving Rs 5,000 five years ago.

Convicting Ajay Kumar Singh Yadav of murdering his friend Sohan Lal, the court held that "prosecution has brought unimpeachable circumstantial evidence against the accused which is inconsistent with his innocence.'
