MANGALORE: The Vanilla Growers' Association of Dakshina Kannada will organise a meeting of vanilla growers at the School of Social Work, Valancia, on November 18 to discuss various matters, particularly their demand that the Government provide them with organic certification. The meeting will discuss measures to be taken in order to get this certification for groups of farmers. Problems faced by the growers will also be discussed, president of the association Kariappa P.S. said here on Wednesday.
Demonstration
After the meeting, vanilla growers will hold a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office to urge the Government to solve their problems. Secretary of the association Sunny D'Souza said that the Centre had not released any subsidy for vanilla growers in Karnataka even though there were a large number of them. It had released Rs. 70 crore as subsidy last year for growers in Kerala, who were a small number.
