Award for Vani Jairam

Mudhra will confer the Mudhra Award of Excellence on Vani Jairam, veteran devotional and playback singer, lyricist and composer, during its 12th fine arts festival scheduled to take place from December 9 to January 1 at Infosys Hall, Ramakrishna Mission School, T. Nagar.

T.S. Narayanaswamy, Chairman and Managing Director, Indian Overseas Bank, will inaugurate the festival.

Vani Jairam won her first National Award in 1976, and has recorded over 10,000 songs and staged several live shows in India and abroad. An accomplished bhajan and devotional singer, she has sung songs with the immortal lyrics written by many poets, including Tulsidas, Kabir, Meera, Jayadeva, Annamayya and Purandaradasa.

She will present an exclusive programme of bhajans and light devotionals for Mudhra on December 17, Mudhra Bhaskar, secretary of the organisation, said.
