CHENNAI: From Saturday, the traffic police have proposed to declare the stretch of Casa Major Road one-way from Halls Road to Pantheon Road between 8.30 a.m. and 11 a.m. with an entry from the Halls Road Junction. According to a release, the vehicles coming from Pantheon Road and intending to enter into Casa Major Road towards the Halls Road Junction will take Pantheon Road, Police Commissioner Office Road, Egmore High Road and the Halls Road Junction to reach Casa Major Road. Following the modification effected recently in the traffic movement on the Harrington Road sub-way, the volume has been increasing in this corridor. As expected, the vehicles, coming from Anna Nagar and Aminjikarai and intending to proceed to Anna Salai through Nungambakkam High Road/Anna Rotary have been reduced. The number of vehicles plying on Casa Major Road from Spur Tank Road to Pantheon Road is also increasing owing to the changes. Hence, it has been planned to implement the recommendations from road-users from Saturday on a trial basis for a month.
Faulty number plates
Police registered over 500 cases against motorists on Thursday under charges of faulty number plates. The police had given November 15 as an ultimatum to ensure that the number plates were displayed as per the specifications mentioned in Section 51 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules. The traffic police imposed fines against erring vehicle users. A senior officer said the check would be intensified in the coming days.
