Cheating case against Ramoji Rao

HYDERABAD: The Punjagutta police on Thursday registered a cheating case against Eenadu Group of Companies Chairman Ch. Ramoji Rao and six others following direction of a local court in connection with a private complaint lodged by Ghasmandi resident, Mahesh.

Mr Mahesh moved a local court stating that the Eenadu channel announced a gift pack worth Rs. 2.5 lakhs for him when he participated in a programme aired by Eenadu Television recently.

He paid Rs. 81,000 towards gift tax and secured the gift pack only to find the gifts were worth Rs. 50,000, Punjagutta Inspector in-charge Sreenivas Reddy said.

Based on the court direction, the police registered a case under Section 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC against Mr Rao, his son Ch. Suman, Eenadu television, P. Krishnamurthy, Thomas jewellers and S.B. Singh.
