HYDERABAD: Mercedes Benz's new generation E Class saloon was launched in the city on Thursday. The all-new look model with redefined comfort and revamped front-end design replaces the regular E Class model that has sold more than a million units all over the world. "We have been able to bring the new model to India within five months of its global launch," Director, Sales and Marketing, DaimlerChrysler India, Sanjiv Sahajwala told presspersons. Andhra Pradesh, he said, accounted for 7.5 per cent of the company's sales in the country. "This year we will be crossing the 150 mark here. From 450 cars in 1999, the number of Mercedes Benz cars in the State has increased to more than 2,000," he said. Buoyed by the response and to meet the increased demand for its vehicles, particularly from the smaller towns, the company was planning to set up its own facility at Pune in addition to its existing unit at Pimpri, Pune. "The new plant will have two to three times the existing capacity," he said. It assembles the entry-level C-Class, E-Class and S-Class Mercedes Benz cars at its Pimpri facility and rolls out 4,000 units annually. Yashwant Jhabakh, managing director, Adishwar Auto-Mahavir Motors, authorised dealers for Hyderabad, was also present.
