I doubt honesty of investigation: Jethmalani

Staff Reporter

Court may order retrial if investigation is found "corrupt"

NEW DELHI: Ram Jethmalani, counsel for Manu Sharma, prime accused in the Jessica Lal murder case, on Thursday submitted in the Delhi High Court that the Court might order retrial of the case if it thought the investigation was influenced. Mr. Jethmalani told a Division Bench of the Court comprising Justices R.S. Sodhi and P.K. Bhasin that he doubted the honesty of the investigation, and added that the police associated with the probe had invented the circumstances to frame Manu Sharma.

When the Bench asked why his client was targeted and chased out of scores of people present at the party soon after ramp model Jessica Lal was shot and whether the Delhi police had any enmity with Manu Sharma, Mr. Jethmalani said the investigating agency had allowed the real culprit, who had given the name of his client to the probing agency, to flee from the spot. The whole case was finished when there were doubts about its impartiality.
