NEW DELHI: For the owners of the eight properties in Qutab Institutional Area in South Delhi which the Municipal Corporation of Delhi began sealing on Tuesday, the action marks the beginning of a long drawn process which may even end in cancellation of their allotments. According to the Delhi Development Authority, which had allotted the institutional land at concessional rates for cultural and social activities, the sealing action is also a stern warning to others who have been violating the terms and conditions of the allotment. DDA sources said the eight properties targeted in Qutab Institutional Area were found to be blatantly violating the allotment norms. Incidentally, a survey had been conducted on court orders that identified 26 properties in the Qutab Institutional Area that were being commercially used. While in the case of others the level of violation was not high, the eight targeted properties had a level over 50 per cent. As per the norms, the land is allotted for cultural and social activities and the allottees are entitled to sub-let only up to 25 per cent of the total area to other organisations engaged in institutional activities and not for commercial purposes.
