This Day That Age
Certain relics of Tippu Sultan, ruler of Mysore from 1755 to 1799, were received in London on November 15 for India in exchange for a portrait of the First Duke of Wellington. Mrs. Vijayalakshmi Pandit, India's High Commissioner in London, received the relics from the present Duke of Wellington, whose family possessions they have been for over 150 years. The relics include 18 pencil portraits of Tippu Sultan's sons and other Mysore nobility of the time, articles of dress that Tippu Sultan personally used and a small oil painting of the Sultan.
