Suggestions invited from judges on Kannada

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Even as the Government is "struggling" to promote Kannada and enforce Kannada as the medium of instruction in schools, the Karnataka High Court has gone a step ahead and invited suggestions from judges on using Kannada in the subordinate judiciary.

Registrar-General of the High Court A.S. Pachhapure has issued a notification to all the District and Sessions Judges inviting their suggestions on implementing Kannada in the subordinate judiciary.

The High Court move is seen as a positive step to integrate itself with the people of the State and in positively responding to the wishes of the locals that Kannada be used as the language. Several advocates welcomed the move but said that Kannada could not be used in the High Court as the language permitted for use was English.
