ERODE: The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation employees affiliated to the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) have urged the State Government to better their employment terms. At a meeting held recently, the members asked the government to reduce their contract term from five years to three years and implement the earlier working conditions. They demanded employment on compassionate grounds for children of deceased employees and those terminated from service on medical grounds.
Repayment
Further, they sought repayment of the amount that the government had collected from 100 employees when they went on strike. In a resolution the members reasoned that since the government had considered the strike period as working days, the amount should be repaid.
Demonstration
Employees of local bodies in Erode district recently held a demonstration demanding salary arrears and a few other benefits from the State Government. Under the banner of the All India Trade Union Congress, they demanded arrears for those employees who recently were made permanent after serving as temporary staff on consolidated payment. They also demanded loan on provident fund, housing facilities and promotion for those who had served for over a decade.
Pledge administered
