Finolex to focus more on construction sector

Special Correspondent

The company is now implementing an expansion programme at its pipe manufacturing facility

KOLKATA: Finolex Industries is increasing its focus on the construction sector as a major market segment against its overwhelming stress on agriculture earlier.

Company President, V. V. Khandekar, said this was in tune with the construction boom all over the country, especially in the eastern region. "The share of agriculture as a market segment has dropped to 65 per cent from 80 per cent over the last five years and construction now has a 20 per cent share of our PVC pipes business", he said. Finolex Industries' products also find application in the telecom industry.

Pointing out that the company was the largest PVC manufacturer with backward integration, he said the resin producing unit was set up in 1994 in Ratnagiri in Maharashtra. The company is now implementing an expansion programme at its pipe manufacturing facility.

He said that to improve its construction sector presence, the company had launched UV stabilised plumbing system, which has met with encouraging response from the plumbing industry. He was here to launch the product in the eastern region.

Mr. Khandekar said Finolex Industries had already created a market for PVC plumbing pipes over the last 15 years, especially down South where PVC plumbing pipes were being used regularly.
