Team of farmers, workers for Delhi

TO THE CAPITAL: A team of workers affiliated to the AITUC and different wings of farmers and farm labourers' unions left for Delhi to participate in an all-India rally on November 23.

PUDUCHERRY: A 60-member team representing the Puducherry units of the All IndiaTrade Union Congress, the farmers and farm labourers unions left here for New Delhi on Friday to participate in an all-India rally to push their charter of demands and urge the Centre to abstain from effecting disinvestments in public sector undertakings.

The Secretary, Puducherry State Committee of the Communist Party of India (CPI), N. Kalainathan, told The Hindu that the rally was aimed at persuading the UPA Government at the Centre to bring into force a comprehensive legislation to protect farmer and farm labourers and to adhere to the Common Minimum Programme in letter and spirit. He greeted the delegates proceeding from here to participate in the rally.

The General Secretary of the AITUC V.S. Abishegam and Deputy Secretary of the Farm Labourers Union A. Ramamoorthy formed part of the team.
