Puducherry
Special Correspondent
PUDUCHERRY: The secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam here, A. Anbalagan MLA, has sought action through Privileges Committee against Chairperson of the Puducherry municipal council B. Sridevi. He told newsmen here on Friday that he had presented a petition on Thursday to the Speaker bringing to his notice "derogatory remarks" most of the councillors had made against him at its meeting chaired by Mrs. Sridevi on November 9. He said that he did not know what actually was the reason for the councillors to make objectionable remarks as well as to adopt a resolution against him. The council had no statutory right to adopt any resolution against an MLA and hence the council had transgressed its limits to the detriment of the privilege of a legislator. He said that the Pattali Makkal Katchi Parliamentary Party leader M. Ramadoss should initiate steps to have Centrally sponsored industries established in the Union Territory. Instead of taking such activities, the PMK leader had been attempting to cause confrontation between the municipal councillors and elected legislators under the garb of procuring powers to the elected municipal bodies.
