Apollo to partner with Lanka Hospitals Corporation

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd (AHEL) has entered into a partnership agreement with The Lanka Hospitals Corporation Ltd (LHCL) to enable licensing and support services between the two.

The agreement follows the recommendations of the restructured board of directors of LHCL and Apollo Hospital, Colombo, Harry Jayawardhane, chairman, Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation and director of LHCL, told reporters here on Friday.

Under the agreement, though the board will look after the operational management of the hospital, it will retain the Apollo name and logo. LHCL will also seek accreditation from the Joint Commission International in which it will be assisted by a team from Apollo. AHEL will look after the recruitment of medical and paramedical staff in the Colombo hospital.

"AHEL intends to bring quality medical care to people around the world. We will go international whenever an opportunity presents itself, provided three basic requirements are satisfied — good infrastructure, good managers and a good medical team. LHCL will be a franchisee partner for Apollo in Sri Lanka," Prathap C. Reddy, chairman, AHEL, said. Medical professionals from AHEL would conduct periodic surgical camps along with the Sri Lankan franchisee for patients who cannot afford to move out of Sri Lanka, he added.

AHEL will also explore the possibility of making Sri Lanka a medical tourism destination, Preetha Reddy, managing director, AHEL, said.

The agreement is valid for five years, subject to periodic medical audits conducted by AHEL.

Damien Fernando, director of LHCL, and K. Padmanabhan, group president, AHEL, were present.
