Rupee extends gains against $

MUMBAI: The rupee extended its gains for the second straight day, closing at 44.9050/9150 a dollar on Friday against 44.9350/9450.

The Indian unit moved in a range of 44.86 and 45.08 as players covered overnight short positions initially followed by heavy selling by foreign as well as private banks.

The rupee touched a low of 45.08 a dollar as traders covered short-dollar positions on worries about further intervention by the central bank.
