KOLLAM: A four-day National Drama Festival will be held at the Sopanam Kala Kendram here from November 19 to 23. The festival is being organised jointly by the Kollam Public Library and Research Centre and the Centre for Performing Arts. Actor Gopi will inaugurate the festival at a function to be presided over by District Collector B. Srinivas, who is also the chairman of the library. `Anandowari', the 80 minute Marathi drama, will be staged on the first day. The drama presented by the Pune-based Atul Pethe Productions is directed by Atul Pethe. The drama is based on a Marathi novel written by Di Ba Mokashi, which tells the story of Tukaram with a different perspective. The 100-minute Bengali play `Bharat Katha' will be staged on the second day. The 70-minute Hindi play `Samraat' will be staged on November 22. Presented by the Udaipur-based Aaj Theatre Group, the drama is directed by Bhanu Bharathi. On the final day the 90-minute Malayalam drama `Raja' will be staged. Directed by Kavalam Narayana Panikkar, the drama is the Malayalam version of Rabindranath Tagore's `King of the dark chamber.'
