KOZHIKODE: The Development Committee for Ward 48 of Kozhikode Corporation has launched a programme to distribute heath cards with details of health status of its residents, build houses for five poor families and give financial assistance to needy students, U.T. Rajan, councillor and committee chairman, K.J. Mathai, general convener of the committee, said. Mr. Rajan said a plan had already been prepared with a design provided by architect K. Mohandas for beautifying the Asokapuram-Sales Tax office complex- mini-bypass road. It is to be implemented with the support of the State Tourism department. Initiatives have also been taken to provide job-oriented training for the unemployed with the support of government agencies. The St. Vincent Colony Residents Association has come forward to provide electric bulbs and lights for streetlights. The Malabar Christian College, also in ward-48, has also agreed to provide support to conduct a survey and build one house for the poor. The survey, to be inaugurated by Mayor M. Bhaskaran on Saturday, will be conducted by students of Malabar Christian College under the supervision of a committee headed by A.P. Sumithran and Dr. P.V. Unnikrishnan. "Our endeavour is to bring about development with people's participation," Mr. Rajan said.
