151 units sealed on Friday

NEW DELHI : The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Friday sealed 151 units, mostly shops dealing in motor parts, automobile oils and ball bearings, on Mayapuri Road and Hari Nagar in West zone.

The drive, carried out in the presence of a large number of police and paramilitary personnel, remained peaceful except for a brief protest by Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Harsharan Singh Balli and Akali Dal Councillor Onkar Singh Thapar.

Detained

The two leaders were immediately detained by the police and kept at Hari Nagar police station till evening.

The sealing operation began in the morning from Mayapuri Road between Ring Road and Pankha Road. The drive was also carried out in Ghanta Ghar area. One stationery shop of over 300 sq.m and a cyber-café operating in more than permissible area were sealed.

So far, the civic body has targeted 984 units across the city.

Undertakings submitted

Meanwhile, 692 traders, who had earlier filed affidavits to stop misuse of their residential premises, submitted undertakings to the civic body on Friday.

2,183 roads

The Supreme Court has asked about 25,000 traders, who had earlier filed affidavits and are now covered in 2,183 newly notified roads, to submit written undertakings to prevent their premises from getting sealed.

While 178 affidavits were filed in Shahdara-North zone, 124 were submitted in Najafgarh and 123 in West zone. Undertaking were also submitted in Central zone (60), Karol Bagh (41), Shahdara-South (39), Civil Lines (36), Sadar Paharganj (31), Rohini (30), South (19) and City (11). No undertaking was submitted in Narela zone.

On Thursday, only 150-odd undertakings were given by the traders.

The MCD has asked traders to submit undertakings only on plain paper and not in the form of affidavits. It should contain relevant details such as ownership and location of property.

The civic body will receive the undertakings till November 19.

MCD has decided to open its zonal offices on Saturday and Sunday also (November 18 and 19) to receive the undertakings.
