UDF to launch agitation against Government

Staff Reporter

DCC to organise meetings today

ALAPPUZHA: The United Democratic Front (UDF) will organise agitation in the district from Saturday to make the public aware of the failure of the six-month-old rule of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government led by V.S. Achuthanandan, Alappuzha DCC president C.R. Jayaprakash has said.

At a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Jayaprakash said the DCC would organise public meetings in all Assembly constituencies in the district on Saturday as a part of the agitation. He said the LDF Government was a total failure. Mr. Jayaprakash said the Government showed negligence in the wake of the outbreak of chikungunya in the district. Mr. Jayaprakash said the compensation of Rs.25,000 announced by the Government for the families of those who died of chikungunya was given only to families of 60 dead though more than 150 persons died of the disease. The free ration declared by the Government in those panchayats ravaged by chikungunya was given only to a selected few, said Mr. Jayaprakash.

He said the police force had become ineffective in the district under LDF rule. The spirit mafia was ruling the roost and illicit liquor was flowing in the district, he said.
