35,000 apply for police vacancies

BANGALORE: The police have received as many as 35,000 applications for the posts of Police Sub Inspector (Civil), Women PSI and Reserve Sub Inspector. The first phase of physical standards and physical efficiency test will be done on November 24 in Bidar, Gulbarga, Raichur, Bijapur, Hubli-Dharwad, Bellary, Davangere, Shimoga, Mandya, Kodagu, Kolar, and Tumkur. The second phase of tests will be held in the third week of December in Mysore, Hassan, Chikmagalur, Dakshina Kannada, Bangalore, Belgaum, Haveri and Udupi. The call letters for eligible candidates for the first phase of the tests have been despatched, said an official press release.

State team for

painting contest

BANGALORE: Sharadha Prabhu of Kumta in North Kanara district and Vaishnavi Mane of Jamakhandi in Bagalkot district will represent the State in the national-level painting competition of Power Grid Corporation of India. The competition will be held in Delhi on December 14. Sharada and Vaishnavi won the first and the second prize in the State-level competition held here on November 14. The corporation is conducting the competition as part of the national campaign on "energy conservation".

`Monitor purchase

BANGALORE: The Karnataka State Apolitical Farmers Interest Protection Committee president B.M. Hanasi of Hubli on Friday urged Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to ensure that the Government procured onions from all small and marginal farmers. In a press release, the committee said the officers were not implementing the orders given by the Chief Minister on October 28. Instead, they were conniving with big farmers who bought permits from village accountants. He urged the Government to instruct the officials to buy onions grown by the farmers on their own lands and not what was brought by them from other sources. — Staff Reporter

Grants sought for

schools by SC/ST

BANGALORE: The Federation of Karnataka State Private Educational Institutions president, K.B. Kalyanappa, on Friday urged the Government to extend the facility of granting funds enjoyed by educational institutions run by the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes to institutions established by the general category. Mr. Kalyanappa told presspersons that many educational institutions had run the schools for 10 years and strictly according to the rules laid down by the Education Department. He said schools that had completed 10 years should be recognised on a permanent basis. — Staff Reporter

No Janata Darshan

Bangalore: There will be no "Janata Darshan" on Saturday as Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy will be touring Mysore district, a press release from the Chief Minster's Secretariat said. — Staff Reporter

Decision welcomed

Bangalore: The Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha has welcomed the Centre's affidavit at the Supreme Court stating that Maharashtra has no right over Belgaum. It has urged the Centre to implement the Mahajan Report as soon as possible, according to a release. A demonstration asking for inclusion of Kasargod into Karnataka will be held on December 11, the release added. — Staff Reporter
