BELLARY: In the continued crackdown on alleged illegal iron ore export racket, the Mobile Squad of the Forest Department on Friday seized a stock of iron ore estimated at Rs. 3.82 crores at Bannihatti in Sandur taluk of Bellary district. The yard, where 47,824 tonnes of iron ore was stocked, belonged to Therapant Food Ltd., Hospet, owned by Gujarat-based Babulal Singhvi. P. Rajashekaran, Deputy Conservator of Forests, who headed the squad, said that Mr. Singhvi and the firm's manager Kishore Kumar were absconding.

The company did business with PKP group of companies, in which the family members of Congress leader D.K.Shivakumar were said to be partners, he said. A report about the raid and seizure of records and iron ore stock had been submitted to the Judicial Magistrate First Class Sandur on Friday, Mr. Rajashekaran said in his release.
