Bus runs over ryot, protesters lathicharged

Staff Reporter

Sangareddy: Forty-seven-year-old Muttapaka Mallaiah, a farmer, was crushed to death when one of the Narsapur-based engineering college buses ferrying students from Hyderabad hit him while he was crossing the road near Madapur village on Friday. He died on the spot.

Villagers, alleging rash driving on part of the driver, arrived at the college along with the body of the farmer and demanded compensation. The villagers held up traffic on the Sangareddy-Narsapur road. As the dispute between the management and villagers continued, the police resorted to a lathicharge to disperse the crowd. In the melee, the Narsapur Sub-Inspector Chandrasekhar sustained a minor injury to his eye and six villagers were hurt.

However, the villagers relented and agreed to cremate the body only after the college agreed to pay a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh, job for the victim's son and money for the wedding of his daughter.
