KHAMMAM: Moves were afoot for acquiring 196.35 acres of land for setting up a food park in Buggapadu village of Sathupalli mandal. Khammam Collector Sashibushan Kumar had a review of the proposals in consideration for establishing new industries at a meeting of the district level industrial development committee here on Friday.
Power generation
Speaking on the occasion, he said entrepreneurs setting up cotton ginning mills and pressing units could apply for allotment of land. The APIIC had already reduced the cost from Rs. 350 to Rs. 200 per square metre. He wanted the Khammam revenue divisional officer to acquire three acres of land for the irradiation plant and five acres of land for cattle fair. He said the ITC Sarapaka expansion, a Rs. 1,000-crore project, would create employment for some 150 persons, besides adding to power generation in the district by 20 mw.
Hub in the making
Nellipaka in Aswapuram mandal would emerge another industrial centre as the APIIC was in the process of acquiring 100 acres of land. A steel unit with 0.68 million tonnes capacity and power units with 130 mw capacity would come up in the place with private investment.
Aluminium plant
The government reached a memorandum of understanding with the Zindal South-west holdings for setting up an aluminium unit with 2.5 lakh tonnes capacity in Khammam district.
