BANGALORE: Delhi Public School (DPS), Mathura Road defeated St. Ephrem's (Kottayam), while favourite Everest Public (Ludhiana) outscored Bangalore's Mallya Aditi International 80-56 in the super league of the inaugural National schools basketball league at the Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium here on Friday. Both the winners are set for a final showdown. So dominant has been the two teams from the north that the rest seem to be in a league two strings below. Mallya Aditi, the Bangalore school did pose a few headaches for the fancied Ludhiana side that was packed with three internationals and the rest, all national players. But with ball handler and shooter Preetham overshadowed and barely managing three points, MAIS could hardly maintain the tempo. With Bulchandani Nityn and Mohd. Adeel Anees, who had a particularly good match, coming good under the boards, Mallya did manage to be within striking distance in the first quarter (16-17) but then on the Ludhiana side stepped up the tempo with international Sukhbir Singh doing the bulk of the scoring. Ram Reddy came off the bench to score two successive three-pointers for MAIS but it did little to change the trend of the game.
The results (super league): DPS (Mathura Road) 72 (Humayu Khan 19, Sarvan Kumar 19) bt St. Ephrem's (Kottayam) 51 (S. Jose 14, Amal James 11). Everest PS (Ludhiana) 80 (Dilawar Singh 17, Sukhbir Singh 15, Yadwinder 11, Harvinder 11) bt MAIS (Bangalore) 56 (Bulchandani Nityn 28, Mohd. Adeep Anees 17). For seventh place: Don Bosco (Mumbai) 57 (Kaustubh Shete 16, Sagar Sonavane 10) bt Hyderabad PS 39 (Bharat 10).
