Mysore: H.J. Prajwal and Rachana R. Gowda claimed a creditable double each in the AITA Talent Series tennis championships for juniors conducted by the R. Nagaraj's Tennis Centre at the SJCE Courts here on Friday. The top-seeded Prajwal, a first PUC student of Shree Lakshmi Hayagriva College here, bagged the boys' under-16 title with consummate ease beating third seed S. Kamal of KIMS Tennis Academy (Bangalore) 6-1, 6-4 in 45 minutes. Prajwal had won the under-16 doubles title on Thursday, partnering M.D. Shreyas.
Settling for a double
Third-seeded Rachana R. Gowda, who was eyeing a triple crown after her doubles triumph (with Padmapriya) on Thursday, had to settle for a double. She went down to her doubles partner in the under-14 singles final at 4-6, 1-6. But Rachana, came back strongly to win the under-16 singles, beating top seed Ravina Shetty 7-6(3), 6-4. R.L. Rinawma, Commissioner of Income Tax, Mysore, presided and gave away the prizes. The results: Singles (finals): Boys: U-16: H.J. Prajwal (Kar) bt S. Kamal (Kar) 6-1, 6-4. U-14: Chirag S. Igoor (Kar) bt S. Karan (Kar) 6-2, 6-3. Girls: U-16: Rachana R. Gowda (Kar) bt Ravina Shetty (Kar) 7-6(3), 6-4. U-14: A.K. Padmapriya (Kar) bt Rachana R. Gowda 6-4, 6-1. U-12: Likitha Shetty (Kar) bt Mrunalini Allah (AP) 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
