HUBLI: After daylong discussions and lobbying, Lingaraj Patil and S.I. Chikkanagoudar, MLA, were unanimously elected presidents of the Hubli-Dharwad Urban and Dharwad Rural district units respectively of the Bharatiya Janata Party here on Thursday. The process of finalising the candidates for the posts took place under the supervision of Minister for Health and Family Welfare R. Ashok, observer for the elections. There were as many as 12 contenders for the post of president of the Hubli-Dharwad Urban district unit, including Ashok Katwe, former MLA, and Lingaraj Patil. For the president of Dharwad Rural district unit, although there were eight aspirants, it was a keen contest between the MLAs S.I. Chikknagoudar from Kalghatgi constituency and R.B. Shiriyannavar from Navalgund constituency. Mr. Shiriyannavar withdrew from the contest.
Appeal
Mr. Ashok appealed to party workers and leaders not to be content with being in power. They should make efforts to take programmes of the Government to the common man, he said. The other office-bearers are: Hubli City - Narayan Jaratarghar; Hubli Rural - Shivanna Halyal; Dharwad City - Hemaraj Bhandari; Dharwad Rural - Sanganagouda Ramanagouda; Navalgund - Shankaranna Avaradi; Kundagol - M.R. Patil; Kalghatgi - Subhas Ghanti.
