Gandsi unlikely to remain a constituency

Staff Correspondent

HASSAN: The Justice Kuldip Singh Commission, which was constituted to delimit Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies according to the 2001 Census, has suggested the inclusion of the Kadur Assembly constituency in Chikmagalur district in the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency and doing away with the Gandsi Assembly constituency. The Belur Assembly constituency will be de-reserved, while Sakleshpur will become a reserved constituency (Scheduled Castes) if the commission's recommendations are accepted. After delimitation, the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency will have the following Assembly segments: Kadur, Shravanabelagola, Arsikere, Belur, Hassan, Holenarsipur, Arkalgud and Sakleshpur. Minister for

Home and Law M.P. Prakash told The Hindu over the phone from Bangalore that the draft report prepared by the commission was not final.

Associate members of the commission can make objections, if any.
