Young World painting competition tomorrow

MANGALORE: The stage is set for Mangalore regional finals of The Hindu Young World on-the-spot painting competition 2006, which will be held at Cascia High School, Jeppu here on Sunday.

The competition, which has moved to a new venue this year, is being held in this port city for the fifth time ever since the launch of the edition of The Hindu here on June 21, 2002. Nearly 350 students have qualified for the finals.

The competition will be held in two categories. While students in classes IV to VII are in the junior category, those in classes VIII to X are in the senior category. All those selected in the preliminary round have been sent individual call letters to attend the finals of the competition.

Students should be at the venue at least 30 minutes before the start of the competition with their call letters. The competition commences at 9 a.m. The duration of the competition is two hours.

B.V. Baliga, Assistant General Manager of Corporation Bank will be the chief guest at The prize distribution ceremony, which will be held at the venue at 12.30 p.m.

Apart from the first, second and third prizes, seven consolation prizes will be given away in each category.

The toppers in each category will get Rs. 1,250, while those finishing second and third will take home Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 750 respectively. Each of the 14 consolation prize winners in either category will receive a cash prize of Rs. 200. All winners will receive a gift hamper from the title sponsor Lotte Boo Proo.
