JAIPUR: Bharatiya Janata Party nominee Surmal Parmar filed his nomination papers for the Dungarpur Assembly by-election on Friday, the last day for filing nominations. Home Minister G.C.Kataria and other party leaders and workers accompanied Mr.Parmar when he filed the papers.

The Dungarpur seat, reserved for the Scheduled Tribes, has fallen vacant following the death of Nathuram Ahari, who had won on Congress ticket in 2003. Polling for the seat is due on December 4.

The Congress candidate, Punjilal Parmar, filed his nomination papers on Thursday in the presence of PCC president B.D.Kalla, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly Ramnarain Choudhary and PCC general secretary Asq Ali Tak.

The BJP nominee has been a sarpanch twice in the past.
