BHOPAL: With the deadline for filing of nominations for the Pandhana by-election to the Madhya Pradesh Assembly coming to an end on Friday, the battle lines are drawn between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress, Bharatiya Janshakti and Gondwana Gantantra Party for this important battle of the ballot. The by-election has been caused by the gruesome murder of the BJP MLA, Kishorilal Verma. The scrutiny of forms for this by-election would be held on Saturday and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is November 20. Polling is scheduled on December 4 and counting of votes on December 7. The BJP, trying to ride the wave of sympathy, has fielded Devendra Verma, who would be trying to retain the seat that was represented in the Assembly so far by his father. Mr. Verma filed his nomination on Friday. Earlier, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan addressed a large public rally in support of the BJP candidate. Also present on the occasion were the State BJP general secretary (organisational affairs) Kaptan Singh and State Ministers Kailash Vijayvargiya and Prakash Sonkar. The Bharatiya Janshakti candidate, Vasudev Sukhram, also filed his papers on the last day.
