Security beefed up

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Security has been beefed up in all major railway stations in Tamil Nadu following an anonymous call received by Salem Junction authorities that a bomb had been planted in the Chennai Central, Coimbatore Cheran Express and it would be exploded before it reached Salem. However, the call was found to be a hoax.

Railway police, who did not want to take chances, frisked all passengers at Chennai Central before they entered platforms. Empty rakes of major trains were thoroughly checked before they were brought to platforms. Movement of visitors to the Central Station was also restricted.

Similar security measures were followed in major railway stations in the State, according to Southern Railway sources.
