CHENNAI:
The city police arrested a cable television operator on charges of cheating 12 banks of Rs 85 lakh by allegedly submitting forged documents of immovable properties here on Friday.
Following a complaint from the public sector bank managers in the city, the Commissioner of Police Letika Saran directed the central crime branch (CCB) to investigate into the matter. A special team from the bank fraud wing led by ACP Paneerselvam arrested Anand Saraf (39) of Mogappair here on Friday. Police said investigations showed that the accused had two flats in Saligramam and Koyambedu worth about Rs 10 lakh each. He was a cable television operator in Mogappair, Ayappakkam and Pattabiram and owned three medical shops, police added. Officers said he had fabricated 12 sets of documents of the two properties and taken loans from State Bank of Travancore, Vijaya Bank, Syndicate Bank, Federal Bank and Indian Bank among others over the last three years, the officers said.
