BANGALORE: With the State Government approving the Metro alignment along CMH Road, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) is taking immediate steps to acquire land on it and shift the underground utility lines there.

Managing Director of BMRCL V. Madhu told The Hindu that BMRCL had put on hold the land acquisition process on the road, as the Government was yet to decide on the alignment.

The order of the Government clearing the alignment came on Wednesday.

The order issued by the Principal Secretary (Urban Development) said, "... The State Government had examined the matter in detail and decided that in the overall interest of the project, there is no necessity to consider any changes in the alignment in any area, including CMH Road, and permitted the BMRCL to proceed with the implementation of the project."

With this, the BMRCL got the green signal to stick to its original plan.

Notices

Mr. Madhu said notices had been issued for the acquisition and people had submitted their objections.

The BMRCL had given its response to the objections to the land acquisition officer, he said.

Mr. Madhu said BMRCL officials and owners of the property would soon start joint measurement of the property to be acquired soon.

With the Government clearing the alignment, the BMRCL would expeditiously implement the Reach 1 of the project.

Under Reach 1, a 7 km elevated track and seven stations would be constructed.

Already 10 consortia and two individual companies had been short-listed for the award of the Rs. 110-crore civil works in Reach 1.

The short-listed companies would submit their tenders by November 30, Mr. Madhu said.

Work on Reach 1 is to start by December-end or early January.

Reach 1 is to be operational by 2008. Reach 1 is part of the Rs. 6,400-crore phase 1 of the 33-km metro rail network.

It will have 32 stations, connecting Mysore Road to Byappanahalli in the East-West corridor and Yeshwanthpur to R.V. Road in the North-South corridor.
