Power shutdown

There will be no power supply on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., as BESCOM will carry out maintenance work on F2 feeder of Banashankari sub-station. The affected areas include Girinagar, Srinivasanagar, Bank Colony, Vinayakanagar, Gerhalli, Girinagar 4th, 6th and 7th Block, Banashankari 2nd and 3rd Stage, Hosakerehalli and surrounding areas.

Appeal allowed

The Karnataka High Court on Thursday allowed an appeal by PVR Cinemas located in Forum Mall and permitted it to go ahead with the screening of films.

Allowing both petition and appeal by PVR, a Division Bench comprising Justice V. Gopal Gowda and Justice C.R. Kumaraswamy set aside the March 15 order of a single judge.

The Bench on July 18 stayed the order of the District Magistrate of Bangalore directing PVR Cinemas to stop screening films as it had violated certain provisions of the Karnataka Cinematography Act.

`Assaulted'

A business analyst was allegedly beaten up by policemen on Brigade Road and later in Ashok Nagar police station on Friday.

Nilanjan Das alleged that B.S. Lakshman Kumar, a traffic sub-inspector stopped him on Brigade Road as he was not wearing a helmet. The sub-inspector also found that Das did not have emission test and insurance certificates. Das told the police officer that he would bring insurance certificate and pay the fine for the two other offences.Das said he was taken by Ashok Nagar police in a van and was assaulted.

He has filed a complaint with Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), M.A. Saleem.
