NEW DELHI: A delegation of the Confederation of Associations of Indian Traders (CAIT) on Friday met Union Minister for Urban Development Jaipal Reddy and his deputy Ajay Maken and demanded that all the properties that have come up in the Capital till January 1 this year in violation of various norms be regularised. Later, the traders met Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and discussed the situation arising out of the sealing exercise in the city and impressed upon the Delhi Government the need to take steps to redress the problems faced by them. During the meeting with Mr. Reddy and Mr. Maken the traders sought a clear policy guideline on what the Government proposes to do with regard to providing relief to the people who face dislocation. Stating that the situation was very serious and needed remedial measures, the delegation headed by CAIT general secretary Praveen Khandelwal said the Government should take some initiatives during the Parliament session to address the concerns of the traders. Both Mr. Reddy and Mr. Maken assured the traders that the Government was committed to protecting their interests and whenever a policy decision on the issue is taken, all their suggestions would be taken into account. Meanwhile, taking note of the suggestions by the traders, the Delhi Government has decided to constitute a Traders' Advisory Board comprising representatives of various trade organisations of Delhi to provide a mechanism for regular interaction with traders from time to time. During the interaction, the traders were explained implications of the latest directions of the Supreme Court. Ms. Dikshit also gave details of various legal and administrative steps taken up by the Delhi Government, the Union Urban Development Ministry and the MCD to resolve the hardships of affected traders due to the sealing drive. She reiterated her demand for immediate notification of Master Plan for Delhi-2021, implementation of the recommendations of the Tejinder Khanna Committee, Omesh Saigal Committee and Ashok Pradhan Committee reports and total reorientation of the functioning of the Delhi Development Authority and to bring it under the control Delhi Government.
