NEW DELHI : The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Friday sealed 151 units, mostly shops dealing in motor parts, automobile oils and ball bearings, on Mayapuri Road and Hari Nagar in West zone.

The drive, carried out in the presence of a large number of police and paramilitary personnel, remained peaceful except for a brief protest by Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Harsharan Singh Balli and Akali Dal Councillor Onkar Singh Thapar.

Leaders detained

The two leaders were immediately detained by the police and kept at Hari Nagar police station till evening.

The sealing operation began in the morning from Mayapuri Road between Ring Road and Pankha Road, where shops of ball bearing and motor parts that are not allowed in residential areas were sealed.

The Supreme Court has asked about 25,000 traders, who had earlier filed affidavits and are now covered in 2,183 newly notified roads, to submit written undertakings to prevent their premises from getting sealed.

Undertaking were also submitted in Central zone (60), Karol Bagh (41), Shahdara-South (39), Civil Lines (36), Sadar Paharganj (31), Rohini (30), South (19) and City (11).
