Plea to reopen plantations

Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE: The Indian National Plantation Workers' Federation (INTUC) has said that urgent measures should be initiated to reopen plantations, which have been shut down in the State.

The demand was raised at the Malabar region conference of the federation here on Saturday. INTUC State general secretary P.K. Gopalan inaugurated the conference. District president K.C. Ramachandran presided.

The meeting pointed out that the Government had failed to abide by the undertaking to the workers that efforts would be made to reopen the estates and combat the crisis plaguing the plantation sector.
