BELGAUM: The Belgaum District Kannada Organisations Action Committee has welcomed the Centre's stand in its affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court in response to Maharashtra's suit demanding the transfer of Belgaum and adjoining areas to it. The committee urged Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to lead an all-party delegation to New Delhi and pressure the Centre to implement the Mahajan Commission Report. Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, the former Mayor and veteran Kannada leader Siddangouda Patil said both the tone and content of the Centre's affidavit were laudable and appeared to be in favour of Kannada and Karnataka. Now that the Centre had made its stand clear to the apex court and Maharashtra, there was a need to implement the Mahajan Commission Report, he said. Committee president Ashok Chandargi said it was high time that Maharashtra and MES leaders understood the message in the Centre's affidavit and stopped playing with the sentiments of Marathi-speaking people living in the border areas. The MES must decide now on either fighting its battle legally or by means of agitation. Since the matter was before the court, it was illegal for MES to pursue a parallel movement outside the court, Mr. Chandargi said.
