Kasaragod: The Government has taken steps to form Manjeswaram taluk with Uppala as its centre, C.H. Kunhambu, MLA, has said. At a press conference here on Saturday, he said the taluk would include 21 villages from Manjeswaram, Kumbala, Mangalpady, Enmakaje, Badiadka, Meenja and Workadi. He said the proposal for a new taluk was mooted during the last Left Democratic Front (LDF) rule. However, the United Democratic Front (UDF), which came to power later, did not pursue the matter. Now under the LDF rule, the taluk would become a reality. This would usher in more development and progress to these backward areas, Mr. Kunhambu said. He said a new Revenue Divisional Office (RDO) would be constituted in Manjeswaram. Fisheries Minister S. Sarma would inaugurate a Rs.22-lakh drinking water project at Hosabetu on November 26. Public Works Department Minister T.U. Kuruvila would inaugurate the Mundyathaduka and Pathodi bridges and the PWD Rest House on November 30. Mr. Kunhambu said the Government would provide housing facilities to Koragas belonging to the Scheduled Tribes.
