SALEM: Salem M.P. K.V. Thangkabalu distributed bank loans to the tune of Rs. 44.20 lakh to the self-help groups (SHG) at a function held here on Sunday to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Participating in the function, Mr. Thangkabalu called upon the SHG members to make effective use of the loan assistance to improve their socio-economic conditions. He encouraged them to start small enterprises after identifying the needs of the local population. The Central and State Governments were implementing a number of schemes for the welfare of women in the country.
Quality of life
He asked the SHG members to take full advantage of the Government schemes to enhance their quality of life. The loans were provided to the SHG members under various schemes. Mayor J. Rekha Priyadarshini presided over the programme. Veerapandi MLA A. Raja also spoke. Project Officer of District Rural Development Agency D. Jegannathan welcomed. Senior officials from various banks were present. A large number of SHG members from various parts of the district participated in the function
