Krishnagiri: A total of 600 bags of rice worth Rs. 3.60 lakh meant for supply under the Public Distribution System (PDS), which was being smuggled in three lorries, were seized by the district supply officials at Kaveripatinam near here on Sunday. Acting on instructions from the Collector, Santhosh Babu, a team led by the District Supply Officer, S. Natarajan, was conducting vehicle checks at Kaveripatinam when they intercepted the lorries. On inspection it was found that the lorries were on the way from Villupuram district to Bangarapet for sale and subsequent polishing in the open market. Four persons were arrested in this connection. The lorries were handed over to the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation. In another incident, a total of 1,000 litres of diesel and 500 litres of adulterated petrol worth Rs. 50,000, which was kept in the house of Jestin at Shoolagiri, were seized. The Food Cell police have registered a case.
