Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The games events organised as part of the `Suvarna Keralam' celebrations of the University of Kerala will get under way on November 20 with the all-Kerala inter-university volleyball tournament at St. Michael's College Cherthala. Teams from the Calicut, Kannur, M.G. and University of Kerala will take part in the tournament. Pro-vice chancellor of the University of Kerala V. Jayaprakash announced this at a press conference here on Sunday.

The inaugural item of the sporting events was the cross-country race held on November 15. Another event that has been scheduled, as part of the celebrations is the south Kerala inter university Basketball tournament, to be held at Central Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram, and the courts at KSEB headquarters from December 11 to 15.

On November 27 and 28, an inter-university football match will be played at the Lal Bahadur Shastri stadium in Kollam.

"The high point of the sporting events will be an exhibition football match between the Santosh trophy teams from Kerala and West Bengal at the Chandrasekharan Nair stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on November 29," Dr. Jayaprakash said.

The general convener of the Suvarna Keralam celebrations said the programme would cost the University Rs.10 to 15 lakhs.
