New generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class launched in Kerala

Staff Reporter

Comes as Classic, Elegance models in petrol, diesel variants

LUXURY SEGMENT: The new-generation Mercedes Benz E-Class which was launched in Kochi.

KOCHI: Daimler Chrysler has consolidated its position in Kerala by launching the new-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class in the State.

Already, the E and C-Class models of Mercedes are selling 70 to 80 units a year in the State and the S-Class three to four units (considering its price of around Rs.73 lakh), through Rajasree Motors, its dealer in Kerala.

The models are categorised in the luxury segment, beyond the reach of the upper-D segment of cars in the Indian market. The Mercedes models compete with Audi and BMW. The company aims at an annual growth rate of 10 to 15 per cent in the Kerala market.

Features

The new-generation E-Class features about 2,000 parts that are new or are further developments from its predecessor (which has sold over a million units globally since its introduction in 2002).

The revamped front-end design reflects dynamism, power, poise and assurance of the car. The bumper and radiator grille feature a pronounced V-shape, epitomising power and forward motion. Transparent louvres have been added to the top section of the familiar twin-headlamp face.

Managing Director and CEO of Daimler Chrysler India Wilfried Aulbur said that the new-generation E-Class was presented to Indian customers within five months of its global introduction. The E-Class comes as Classic and Elegance models, in petrol and diesel variants.

Some innovations of the new S-Class have been incorporated in the model, like adaptive braking. The four-spoke steering wheel features elliptical thumb-operated buttons and a new control unit for the standard-fit thermatic automatic climate control.
